PSoC and Pizza Workshop

Description:
PSoC, an integrated ciruit (IC) by Cypress Semiconductor, is a programmable embedded system-on-chip that integrates memory, microcontroller and analog/digital peripheral functions into a single cheap. Cypress Semiconductor is a supplier of proprietary and programmable solutions with specialties ranging from PSoC to USB.

Do you want a chance to learn about an incredibly versatile and software configurable integrated circuit? How about getting one for free? Do you want free pizza as well? Well, you can get all of these things and more at the PSoC and Pizza Workshop.

Come and watch a Cypress representative talk about how to use and program a PSoC while you follow along and eat pizza. In addition, free PSoCs will be given to those who don't own one (given on a first come, first served basis).

It is highly advisable to bring a fully charged laptop with you to the workshop so you can follow along. Due to the location of the event, power outlets are very limited.

Exploring Your Universe Outreach

Description:
Exploring Your Universe is a full-day of science activities and outreach that lasts from 12 PM -5 PM (Day time activities) and from 5 PM -8 PM (nighttime activities). The event is free of charge and open to all public. Participants include NASA Mission Representative, various science departments and student organizations, including UCLA IEEE. Come and visit UCLA IEEE at the Exploring Your Universe (EYU) Outreach 2012. EYU is a full day of science activities where NASA, various science departments and science/engineering student organizations provide hands-on projects, such as bubble bomb, and presentations, such as Nanoscience and Nanoengineering, to visitors. Fall General Meeting #4: General Board and More

Description:
Are you interested in knowing more about the inner working of UCLA IEEE? Do you want to do more for your fellow EE students? Do you have a solid plan you know that can enhance student education here at UCLA HSSEAS but lack the resource to implement them? Come to UCLA IEEE’s General Meeting #4 to learn more about becoming a general board member of UCLA IEEE and see how you can become more involved with UCLA IEEE.

General board members are equivalent to reserve officers and will be trained in various positions, of individual’s choice, by current officers holding the respective positions.

Beside the general board, General Meeting #4 will also be featuring other themes that will be announced later this week.

Cisco Information Session

Description:
Wireless router, data center management, optical networking, all these are just tips of the iceberg of Cisco Systems’ services and products. Head quartered in San Jose, Cisco Systems, one of the world’s largest designer, manufacturer and sales of networking equipment, including video conference equipment and services, is coming to UCLA. Cisco representatives will be introducing Cisco Systems, Inc. as well as hosting a workshop on creating your professional image in career fairs and interviews.

Free food will be available at the information session. Cisco is also accepting both full time and interns, so do not forget to bring your resume.

EE Town Hall

Description:
Do you have questions about the EE curriculum? Things you want to improve or resolve but you do not know how? Want a chance to talk to professors and administrator about your ideas? Come to the EE Town Hall, an annual event where students and faculties of the UCLA EE department gathered together to discuss, debate and distribute information about the EE curriculum.   This is also a great time to network with professors and faculties in the department.

UCLA IEEE and HKN will be setting up a table in front of ESUC Lounge starting this week (6th week) Wednesday till next week to gather questionnaire and suggestions from all EE students.

IEEE 2012 Green Energy Forum

Description:
Are you interested in renewable energy? Do you have a passion for micro-grid application? IEEE Systems Council Coastal Los Angeles Section is hosting the 3rd Green Energy Forum on November 19th, 2012 at Cal State Long Beach. The topic is “A System Level Discussion on Renewable Energy and Micro-grid Applications”.

You may also submit a poster of your project related to renewable energy, micro-grid applications or electrical vehicles to win an iPod. Multiple awards will be given

Registration fees (for parking and lunch): $5 for student members of AIAA, AIChE, ASME and IEEE, $20 for non-students, and $30 for on-site registration and late online registration. Furthermore, participants need not stay for the entire event.

2.
NVIDIA – Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Competition
Description:
NVIDIA is seeking to host a CoD; Black Ops 2 competition between UCLA and USC students in November. NVIDIA will be donating supercharged graphics PC’s to participating schools and will arrange a neutral venue (or on campus, depending on the condition). Free copies of CoD: Black Ops 2 will be sent out to participating teams to train their skills as soon as the game is available on November 13th, 2012.

NVIDIA is currently looking for a UCLA student representative for the event. The representative will help with building the competing team as well as some logistics.

3.
Lab Opportunity: Electric Vehicle Charging Boxes Construction (Work-study and other payment option available)
Description
A graduate student in UCLA SMERC (Smart Grid Energy Research Center), is looking for two to three undergraduates (preferably 2nd or 3rd years) who have sufficiently sold academic standing that they can commit 20 hours a week to work. Responsibilities include working with hand tools, drilling holes, installing wire, cutting plastic with dremel tools and etc.

Work study is available. And if you are not qualified, other payment options are available.
