SpaceX Mars Competition Viewing
Date:
Wednesday, May 26th
Location:
Engr IV Patio
Time:
12:00PM – 4:30PM
Description:
Watch some of the best engineers in your class compete against their peers to build the best autonomous vehicle. Grand prize: a personal tour of the SpaceX facility, lunch with SpaceX Co-Founder Tom Mueller, and a $500 donation to the student organization or charity of choice.

Food will be served, and spectators are eligible for SpaceX prizes such as free SpaceX gear, a tour of the facility, and a custom SpaceX gift card! For best viewing, please come between 3:30 PM – 4:30 PM.

1st Annual All America MicroMouse Competition Results
Description:
On Sunday May 26th, UCLA IEEE hosted its own MicroMouse competition, in which student-designed, built, and programmed autonomous robots navigated a 16 x 16 cell maze, competing for the fastest run. Teams represented UCLA, UCSD, CSULA, and UCR, and the top 3 are ranked below:

UCLA University Nanosat Program Recruitment
Organization:
UCLA Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics
Requirements:
 10+ Hours/Week, Current Engineering Student, and good standing with the University
Preference:
Ideally willing to stay on the team for long term; special emphasis on recruiting RF students.
Description:
University Nanosat Program, first launched in 1999, is a satellite design and fabrication competition for universities. With the goal of designing, building and testing small satellite, the University Nanosat Program aims to train next generation of satellite professionals. For more information, please see US Air Force’s page here.

UCLA’s Nanosat Program is focused on Electron Losses and Fields Investigation (ELFIN), a space weather investigation in a 3U Cubesat, is current recruiting several EE and CS students to join the project. The main responsibilities include soldering, coding in Arduino & PIG’s, and RF related tasks (a special emphasis on recruiting RF students). If further funding is approved, students may be monetarily compensated.

85th UCLA Extension Technical Management Program

Description:
If you are interested in working in technical management consider the 85th UCLA Extension Technical Management Program.  You will meet technical managers from across the US and abroad from industries that include aerospace, energy, communications, electronics, biomedical, national laboratories, and government.
Here are just a few of the 21 intensive courses to be offered in the upcoming program: 
·           Networking, Influence, and Strategic Relationships
·           Navigating Organizational Politics
·           Creating and Sustaining Excellence in the Workplace
·           Strategic Thinking and Planning for Leaders
·           Building High-Performance Teams
If selected, you will attend three courses during the week, in addition to assisting staff and instructors with a variety of support tasks.  You will receive $250, five free lunches and breakfasts, and attend two evening receptions.

CSULB IEEE Green Energy Conference: Call for Papers
Description:
The IEEE Green Energy and Systems Conference provides the perfect environment to network with fellow researchers and practitioners from relevant fields, and a chance to obtain first-hand information on the latest advances in technologies, prototypes and application exemplars. This year’s conference will be hosted on November 25th, 2013 at Pyramid, CSULB.

We are looking in particular for any student members who would like to submit and present their own green-energy-related research in the form of a 2-5 page paper and a presentation. This conference’s focus is on Efficient Utilization of Energy and Storage Systems. Information about the conference and deadlines can be found

IEEE ComSoc Student Competitions
Description:
Show how you can change the world by developing a unique communication solution to a real-world problem using engineering, technology, science, computing, and leadership skills to benefit the community or the world. Explain how you have made a positive impact for humanity, and you can win. For more information about the competition, please refer to this link. 1st place will receive $2000 and a plaque, 2nd place gets $1000 and a plaque. Meritorious projects will receive honorary certificates from IEEE Communications Society.
Eligibility: Student member or Graduate Student Member of IEEE Communications Society or team with either Student members or non-members but led by Student Member. All participants must be 18 years or older. IEEE Communications Society membership registration can be found here.
Deadline:
Submit your project by August 30th, 2013
