Cypress PSoC Spring Workshop (2nd Week)

Description:
It is recommended to bring your laptop with you for this event.

PSoC, an integrated ciruit (IC) by Cypress Semiconductor, is a programmable embedded system-on-chip that integrates memory, microcontroller and analog/digital peripheral functions into a single cheap. Cypress Semiconductor is a supplier of proprietary and programmable solutions with specialties ranging from PSoC to USB.

Do you want a chance to learn about an incredibly versatile and software configurable integrated circuit? With the vital roles microprocessors play in the field of EE, this workshop provides a great learning opportunity.

Spring Quarter General Meeting #1: Officer Infosession

Description:
Ask yourself this question: What is EE to you? Now, look at UCLA’s EE curriculum, then ask yourself this question: What is it missing? Whatever is missing, those are what we, UCLA IEEE, strive to fill in. Lend us your strength in our endeavor to enhance, enrich and empower UCLA engineering students. For yourself, for your fellow engineering friends, for the engineering school, join us here at UCLA IEEE. Come to the first general meeting of the quarter to learn about the officer positions available and learn of the opportunities you have to render the changes you wish to see.

E-Week Talent Show: Engineers Got Talent

Description:
This annual tradition is where engineers from various fields come together to showcase their hidden talents. First place will receive $200 in cash, and second and third place will also receive great prizes. In addition, free food will be provided to all attendees. Individual and group acts are both welcomed.

Description:
Northrop Grumman is a global aerospace and defense technology company and one of the largest defense contractors, responsible for products ranging from B-2 bomber to remote sensing system for remote space platforms and precise sensors

The Communication and Data Systems Center within Northrop Grumman Aerospace is responsible for the systems engineering os space, air and ground based communication systems. Join the representatives from the Center to explore the opportunities offered in   communication systems engineering at Northrop. In addition, the representatives will discuss what classes and programs Northrop supports and how your classes can be applied to this field of engineering. BroomBall Competition: UCLA vs. USC

Come to the annual Broomball competition between UCLA and USC IEEE student branch. Delight in the adrenaline rush as you rush across the ice rink while holding onto the puck for a chance to score. Most important of all, relish in the moment when we take back the victory lost on the thirtieth night of chilly January. The sullied night will be redeemed. AeroVironment Communications/RF Intern

Description:
AeroVironment is a prominent small UAS (Unmanned Aircraft System) and electric vehicle (EV) charging systems provider based in California. Best known for its innovations in producing small UAS as well as its alternative-powered (using hydrogen fuel cells, solar panels and even man-powered airplanes), Aerovironment works closely with US armed forces to provide real-time, airborne reconnaissance, surveillance and communication. In addition, its EV chaging systems and installation services serve consumers, automakers, utilities and government agencies around the country.

Aerovironment is currently looking for an EE undergraduate or graduate student with concentration in the communications courses (EE 132A/B, EE 162A, EE 114/114D and labs) to work as an intern (or   perhaps a longer term Co-Op) in the RF and Communications area.

IEEE Computer Society/Moverio Contest
Description:
IEEE CS Society is hosting a competition via video reply and is asking participants to pitch them the “next generation” application ideas for Moverio BT-100, an Android based high resolution see-through display with Wi-Fi connectivity. More information on Moverio BT-100 can be found here.
The contest entry date starts on January 1st 2013 and ends on April 30th, 2013. Official rules of the contest can be found here. One grand prize of $8,000 and 3 honorable Mention Prizes of $2,000/each will be given. All winners will also be given a Moverio BT-100 unit.

IET’s 7th  Present Around the World Competition

Description:
The IET, The Institute of Engineering and Technology, is a world leading professional organization sharing and advancing knowledge to promote science, engineering and technology across the world. A professional home for life for engineers and technicians, and a trusted source of essential engineering intelligence. With over 150,000 members across 127 countries, IET operates global technical and professional networks tailored to specific fields of engineering and technologies. In addition, it is also Europe’s largest professional body of engineers.

Present Around the World Competition is a presentation competition where the individual competitors are asked to make a 10 minute presentation on a science or engineering subject followed by a 5 minute Q&A period. The local network competition will be held in El Segundo on May 11th. Interested students need to supply a “presentation title” and a short (less than 100 word) “abstract” of their presentation by April 26th, 2013. More details about the competition can be found here. The participant must be between the ages of 18-26 years old.
