UCLA IEEE at Enormous Activities Fair

IEEExtreme 24 Hour Online Programming Competition
Description:
IEEEXtreme is a global online challenge in which teams of IEEE student members compete in a 24 hour time span to solve programming problems. The competition takes places on October 20th, 2012. Each team consists of three members. See below for registration details.

WorldQuant LLC Information Session
Description:
WorldQuant is a private institutional investment management complex consisting of an international team of researchers, traders and technologists who constantly work toward even greater quantification and automation in the development of its trading processes.

Currently, WorldQuant is looking for candidates for its Assistant Porfolio Manager and Quantitative Researcher positions with excellent quantitative academic background. WorldQuant will host an information session (October 16th) introducing the company and the opportunities.

Additional Information: 

Assistant Portfolio Manager Qualifications:
• Ph.D. or M.S. degree from a top tier institution in a highly analytical 
  field, such as Mathematics, Operations Research, Economics, 
  Electrical Engineering, Financial Engineering, Computer Science and 
  Physics
• Interest/background in finance, demonstrated by coursework in  
  economics or finance
• Solid programming skill (C++/Python/Perl) is a strong plus
• Ability to work independently and innovate
• Understanding of optimization theory and algorithms (including  
  dynamic programming, large-scale linear and non-linear 
  programming, interior point methods, genetic algorithms, simulated 
  annealing and robust optimization) is a plus
• Strong work ethic and drive to succeed

Quantitative Researcher Qualifications:
• Ph.D. or M.S. degree from a leading US university and B.S. degree 
  from the top university in US, China, India, Israel, Russia, Vietnam, 
  Thailand (or from other leading universities in the world) in a highly 
  analytical field, such as Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics,
  Electrical Engineering, Financial Engineering or any other related   
  field that is highly analytical and quantitative
• Ranked as top 20% in class for bachelor's degree
• Willing to relocate to one of our international research offices
• Have a research scientist mind-set, i.e., be a deep thinker, creative,  
   persevering, smart, a self-starter, etc.
• Be competent in a programming language (C++ or C)
• Possess good English language skills
• Have a strong interest in learning about worldwide financial markets
• Have a strong work ethic

Patexia Art Search: Charge Pump Circuit
Description:
Patexia is offering a $5000 prize in a prior art research contest centered around charge pumps in voltage controlled oscillators. The object is to find published material pre-dating a certain patent. This is a great opportunity to showcase your technical skills and gain visibility in the industry.

Code Slam 2012 – Global Coding Competition 
Description:
SAP is hosting its first global virtual coding challenge on Saturday, October 13th, 2012. Students around the world are being invited to show off their coding skills in a 24-hour challenge that will require creativity and excellent coding skills.
