IEEE: Student Volunteers Needed

Subject: Help recruiting student volunteers for IMS in Anaheim

Dear Professor Itoh and Professor Wang,

I hope that things are going well with the both of you. As you probably know Younkyu Chung, Katie Allen and I are in charge of student volunteers and university booths at IMS this year. So far things are going well but we could use your personal help with recruiting more student volunteers. As you know many volunteers will be needed to help the conference go smoothly.

We have 25 volunteers so far. Many are from outside of California. About 5 are from USC. But we have not received interest from any students from UCLA yet.

Would you please encourage your graduate students and even undergrad students to volunteer in the conference? This will help us out a lot. Our target number of volunteers was 50. The rest of the steering commitee would like a 100 volunteers! You can see that we have some work to do.

IMS2010 – STUDENT VOLUNTEERS
DEADLINE: Respond by March 26th, 2010

Dear Colleague,

As you may know, this year’s International Microwave Symposium will be held in Anaheim, California on May 23-28, 2010. The success of this year’s Southern California hosted conference is dependent on student volunteers,
who serve in several capacities to ensure the week runs smoothly and enjoyably for all. It is also a tremendous opportunity for students to experience our society’s premier event first hand, while forging new contacts. As a prominent professor in the Southern California area, we especially need your help in recruiting local volunteers. Please pass on the information listed below to your graduate students. Additionally, we would like you to help us pass this information on to undergraduate students, especially members of university chapters of IEEE and HKN or those students enrolled in your microwave-related classes. You might even agree that volunteering at the conference would be worth an extra credit point or two!

- Student volunteers are needed for every day of the conference.

- Typical duties may include

Monitoring technical sessions/workshops
Assisting in registration
Directing participants to conference events
Generally helping to ensure a successful symposium

- Volunteers who work a total of 8 hours will receive free registration.
(Details on receiving free registration will be sent to volunteers by email)

- Food and beverage will be provided during hours of service, including breakfast, lunch, and snacks.

- All volunteers will be eligible to win raffle prizes and have the opportunity to attend special events.

- Interested students should email ims2010.volunteers@gmail.com by March 26th with contact information and availability.

Thank you for your help and consideration. We look forward to seeing you in May.

Sincerely,

Kevin Leong
Katie Allen
