Your Google Ambassador

Greetings UCLA Electrical Engineering Students!

This is your local Google Engineering Ambassador, letting you know that if you wanted to organize a Google event, utilize more Google products on campus,  or had any questions, ideas, or concerns regarding Google, that I'm here to help out!

I'm also here to let every one know when new Google event's will be taking place, like the tech talk and interview workshop that happened earlier this quarter.  Be on the lookout next quarter for some events next quarter regarding new products or workshops.

To reach me, just send me an email at fozziethebeat@gmail.com, or you can swing by my office in Boelter Hall 4685.

In addition, I wanted to get an idea of how students on campus are using some Google products.  If you could, please take a few minutes to fill out a survey regarding Google Docs.  Everyone who fills out a survey, and provides contact information, will be entered into a raffle to win either a slick Google water bottle or a Google Wave account (Up to 50 people will get a water bottle and 10 will get a wave account), so don't be timid!

A link for the survey can be found here com/viewform?formkey=dENYY0RuN0xiY2dJZ1o4ZmFjZE5PTFE6MA>

Sincerely,
Your Google Ambassador, Keith Stevens

IEEE General Boards

Hey everybody,

We have our new general boards for the quarter!

At the end of Fall and Winter Quarter, we offer a rotation program where board members can choose either to stay with the board they are in, or rotate to something new. Thus, please do not be disappointed if you did not get into your 1st choice board!

In general, decisions were made based on the essay question. However, Mini-Projects was above & beyond the most popular choice. Because project members should be able to understand and explain the concepts behind the circuits to the general public, preference was given to seniors.

If you were on a board last year, you must still reapply. Applications are accepted year-round, space is limited.

*Board members will be contacted by their managers for further instructions*

A Message from Diana Long, Microsoft!

Hi, My name is Diana Long and I am the Microsoft Student Representative for UCLA.

Imagine Cup is a Microsoft-run programming contest that allows students and amateurs to compete in several different competitions. Imagine Cup not only finds the best and brightest, but also promotes creativity in the computing field. This year’s theme is
"Imagine a world where technology helps solve the toughest problems." An example of last year’s winner in game design is counter strike: HIV killer.

If you would like to register with me there will be a meeting that will help you register and help you with your proposals. The meeting will be held October 14, 2009 in Covel Commons Computer lab from 7:00pm-9:00pm. There will be some free giveaways including some swag and software. This meeting is people who are serious about registering and have an idea of what they might want to submit.

There are several perk to entering in the Imagine Cup. The best reason to enter the Imagine Cup is a ticket (for everyone who commits to the Imagine Cup) to The PDC (The Professional Developers Conference).

PDC is a great way of getting hands-on access to the latest developer technologies and over 1,000 Microsoft product and technology experts available to answer your questions. You also get unique networking opportunities with technology leaders.

On top of getting a ticket to PDC (valued at $600), entrants who enter the Imagine Cup have also been considered for career opportunities with Microsoft. In addition, registering alone enters you into a $10,000 giveaway. Also, every week 100 entrants will win a copy of HALO ODST.
